Arizona to Idaho, California to Colorado, the talk by photographer Roger Reynolds FRPS took members and guests at Reading Camera Club last Friday evening along a tour of some of the finest landscapes in the west of the USA. Roger’s beautiful and dramatic pictures of state and national parks, including Yosemite and Yellowstone, were accompanied by his very knowledgeable commentary on the geology and landscapes in the area. Some of the scenes were well-known, such as Half Dome in Yosemite and Zion Canyon, but others of fascinating, but little-known state parks in Oregon. There were also beautifully detailed shots such as Aspen trees in their autumn colours and the rock formations at Arches National Park.
After a break for tea and coffee (and chocolate biscuits) Roger continued with the second half of his presentation featuring the wildlife of the USA. Beginning with Florida, he showed us a series of stunning portraits of native American birds, some with strikingly-coloured plumage, followed by shots of Grizzly Bears at an Alaska river during the annual salmon run.
For the final section, Roger returned to Yellowstone (which he told us he had visited more than 100 times), photographing the big mammals – elk, moose and bison – and the apex predators: wolves, coyotes and bobcats.
Our next meeting will be held at St Peter’s Church Hall, Earley, Reading, RG6 1EY next Friday evening (September 15th) where we will be presenting trophies for last season and reviewing our entries to inter-club competitions from the 2022-2023.
This will be a great opportunity for new members to get to know the club and what we do.
